July and August do the damage here. Surface water heats past 90 degrees, the pond separates into layers, and the bottom loses its oxygen. Then a thunderstorm pushes nitrogen and phosphorus off the red clay into the basin. Within a week you have string algae, duckweed across the surface, and water that smells like sulfur.
We work that problem in order instead of guessing. First, a water chemistry and dissolved oxygen diagnostic: pH, alkalinity, and nitrate levels read against North-Central Alabama profiles. Second, mechanical debris and sludge removal that pulls bottom muck without tearing up the biological filtration beds you want to keep. Third, beneficial bacteria that digest excess phosphorus before algae can feed on it. Fourth, aeration and fountain work sized to the depth and surface acres.
