A homeowner off Rainbow Drive, a few blocks from US Route 411, had standing water across the back lawn for days after every storm. Heavy clay, almost no fall. We cut a graded swale to the rear line, set a French drain with two catch basins along the foundation, then regraded and laid fresh sod. The next storm cleared the yard in hours.
A waterfront lot near Neely Henry Lake was losing soil down the bank every spring. We terraced the slope with a segmental retaining wall, added a flagstone patio on a compacted base, and planted native Alabama species along the grade to hold the bank. Two seasons in, the erosion has stopped and the beds fill in on their own.
